English Puzzle Challenge 2

2019/11/07

Were you able to solve the first puzzle?

Each arrangement highlights (makes important) a different word more important.

For example, #2 starts with "Aren't" meaning "I thought you were going out tonight; so, why are you still at home?"

#3 emphasizes NOT and has the meaning of "I think you are not going out tonight and I want to check if that is true."

In #4 TONIGHT is emphasized and means "You are going out tonight (not tomorrow, for example)."

#5 is similar and can be used to mean "I can't believe you are going out tonight (because it is terrible weather, for example)"

#6 and #7 are examples of Tag Questions. In the former, I assume that you are going out tonight and I want to check while in the latter, I believe that you are not going out tonight.

  1. Are you going out tonight?
  2. Aren't you going out tonight?
  3. Are you not going out tonight?
  4. You're going out tonight?
  5. You're not going out tonight?
  6. You're going out tonight, aren't you?
  7. You're not going out tonight, are you?

Hopefully you enjoyed this puzzle and it helped you look at English in a different way. Here is the link to English Puzzle #2.
